CASE STUDY AWAITS AT THE END
Boxed is a luggage startup that rethinks the way we use luggage bags. With extremely powerful corrugated materials, these boxes are more durable than your regular luggage bags. These bags come with wheels and handles attached which makes their transport completely friendly. Boxed aims to be your go-to brand when it comes to packing and moving. Boxed bags are also more sustainable and pocket friendly (luggage bags cost around 300$ while Boxed bags cost only 15$) than the regular luggage bags and are completely customizable in sizes and designs. Stand out with one of these the next time you are at the airport!
Project Time: Fall 2023 - 3 Weeks
Boxed set out to reinvent luggage by stripping it down to its smartest core: corrugated strength, lightweight mobility and a playful challenger spirit. The brief was to shape a brand that felt inventive without being gimmicky.
The design system was built around portability, integrating wheels and handles to ensure ease of transport without compromising on strength. A key aspect of the process was refining the balance between durability and aesthetics - creating a form that felt both utilitarian and modern. Beyond the product itself, the branding and packaging were designed to reinforce Boxed’s identity as a forward-thinking, practical solution for contemporary travel.
The visual foundation pulled from warehouse markings, transit labels and packaging systems. Mix in modular grids, stencil lettering, recycled textures and a hint of humor.
The logo took cues from box-cut shapes and industrial printing. Clean, confident forms with the sturdiness of a corrugated edge.
Packaging leaned into what the brand already owned: cardboard as canvas. Bold stamps and oversized symbols created a system that looked raw but intentional, like shipping labels that discovered their sense of style.
The boxes used only black and white, an intentional choice to keep printing costs lean and let the corrugated texture stay front and center. Everywhere else in the brand, a hit of neon green stepped in to bring the energy up. The neon kept things contemporary while the green nodded to Boxed’s sustainability ethos.
Illustrations are bold and playful, dominating the front of the boxes to give each package personality and charm. The large-scale graphics create a fun, engaging presence while keeping the design striking and uncluttered.
Since this was a product that does not exist in the world already, I turned to Blender to make the mockup and bring the design to life. Big shoutout to Hanxiao (Winter) Sun who helped me with Blender!
